BYU seeks to develop students of faith, intellect, and character who have the skills and the desire to continue learning and to serve others throughout their lives.
How some of our students are currently living the aims of a BYU education:
There is no secret formula for admission to BYU. All applications go through a holistic review, meaning everything in the application is considered. Take the application for admission seriously and tell us about yourself! If there is something specific you would like the committee to know, be sure to tell us in your application. Make sure the work is your own and be thorough. Your application, including your essays, should demonstrate your preparation in the aims of a BYU education. Application Tip: As you write your essays answer the prompts, but find ways to show us how you personally embody the four Aims. Let us know the real you, that is who we want!

All secondary education and college work done outside of the United States (not U.S. accredited) must be evaluated by an international credential evaluation agency at the applicant’s expense. This includes international work that may have been evaluated by a U.S. accredited institution and included on a U.S. accredited high school or university transcript.
BYU accepts evaluations from International Education Research Foundation (IERF) and SpanTran.
Please note that even if you are applying to multiple CES institutions, only one evaluation is required.
DO NOT send your transcripts directly to us unless they are submitted by an accredited U.S. institution. We will discard any international transcripts that are not properly evaluated.
For more information about evaluating international work check out our website.
Plan Early – Test registrations (English Proficiency, etc.) and credential evaluation can take several weeks or longer. To avoid rush fees, plan to register for these application requirements at least 2-3 months before the application deadline.
Match Names – You should list your name on the application and register for any tests with your name exactly as it appears on your passport. This will help to ensure scores submitted electronically are properly received. Any variation may cause a delay.
When to Apply - Admission to one semester or term is not easier than another. Only apply for the semester or term you wish to start. You must attend the term/semester you are admitted unless deferring for a mission. You can apply for deferment at deferment.byu.edu.
Endorsements – An endorsement must be submitted from your ecclesiastical leaders on your behalf. If you are not a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints you must be interviewed by either your own ecclesiastical leader or a Latter-day Saint bishop as well as the University Chaplain. For members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, you will meet with your bishop/branch president and a member of your stake/district presidency.
Reporting US High School Work – If you have attended any U.S. high schools, or U.S. accredited high schools, you will need to self-report this work on the application. An official transcript will be required only if you are admitted. Failure to provide accurate information on any portion of the application may result in rescinded admission.
Essays – Read the prompts carefully, and use your best writing skills to respond. All application essays are read as a part of BYU’s holistic admission review process. Tell us about the experiences and characteristics that are important to you as an individual. Additional essay tips can be found on our essays and activities webpage.
2nd Bachelor’s Degrees - If you have completed a bachelor’s degree you are not eligible for a second bachelor’s degree from BYU, but are welcome to apply to BYU graduate programs.
Transfer Applicants - It is unlikely that BYU will admit transfer applicants that have 90 credits or more at the time of application — even if that credit will not transfer.
All deadlines are 11:59 PM (Mountain Time). Although our offices will close at 6:00 PM, the application will still be available online through 11:59 PM (Mountain Time).
Application deadlines are final. In order to submit your application, we must receive ALL application materials—including those submitted by others on your behalf. Any application not submitted by the deadline will not be considered.
BYU does not admit applicants who will be younger than 17 years of age by the first day of class of their first enrollment because of the intellectual, social, and emotional maturity required of university students.
*Applicants who submit the application by the priority deadline will receive extra consideration in the admission process.
NOTES:
All deadlines are 11:59 PM (Mountain Time). Although our offices will close at 6:00 PM, the application will still be available online through 11:59 PM (Mountain Time).

We define “transfer” as an applicant who attended college or university after completion of high school or secondary education. A full account of your academic history will be required, regardless of transferability or desired program of study.
